Addiction
Services promotes
the health of individuals, families and communities by providing
prevention and health promotion programs and treatment services related to drugs (alcohol, tobacco
and other drugs) and gambling. The
goal is to maintain or improve health and reduce the harm
associated with drugs and gambling. Addiction
Services provides a variety of programs including:
Withdrawal
Management (Detox)
located at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital helps people who need
supportive counseling and medical assistance to deal with the
physical and mental withdrawal stages of dependency and
addiction.
Addiction
Education Program: A short-term program provided on an
outpatient basis at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital helps
individuals understand substance abuse, relapse signs and
symptoms and early coping strategies to avoid harmful
involvement with alcohol, tobacco or gambling.
Structured
Treatment Program: This long-term residential treatment (located in
Middleton) is for those who are experiencing more severe and
chronic substance misuse problems. Click here

Prevention
and Health Promotion Programs:
A
range of programs is available for individuals, families,
schools and communities to foster supportive environments and
healthy choices regarding drugs and gambling. Program areas
include: education and training for the public, students,
teachers, parents and professionals; community development;
advocacy; and policy development.
Counseling Services: These allow people to access information and treatment in
communities throughout the District.
Services include: community-based counseling (by
appointment) for adults, school-based education and counseling
for adolescents, nicotine addiction treatment and women’s
services.
Specialized
services are also provided for particular populations such as
women, adolescents and people convicted of impaired driving
offences.
